  3. Embrace Design Principle of Sustainability • How we work, play and live today should not jeopardize the lifestyles of future generations. • Today’s decisions should weigh tomorrow’s impact.

  4. Sustainability • Once: provenance of tree huggers. • Now: mainstream - including currency of corporate America. • Wall street, Hollywood and main street. • Time, Newsweek and dozens others. • IBM, Du Pont, Kaiser Permanente, Yahoo, J&J.

Hartman Report on Sustainability Sustainability is not seen by consumers as simply saving the earth. • It is a multi-dimensional topic that encompasses the environment, family, community and even the economy. • Many of the consumer values driving the interest in health and wellness stem from a foundation of sustainability.

  11. The Big Idea Addison can further its leadership in new urbanism by facilitating Brookhaven Village to be one of the nation’s initial: Green built new urbanism redevelopments Potential showcase for environmentally conscious urbanism in Addison

  12. Brookhaven Redevelopment • Propose exploratory charrette with developer, US green building council reps and town to explore how greening the project can benefit: • The developer • Future residents • The Town • Town retain LEED certified professional.
