 I-84 Bicycle Path Connector
 The Two Current Crossings:
MLK is the most dangerous crossing. There is no bike lane or shoulder. The design of the four lane roadway encourages multiple lane changes and high speed traffic.
NE 12th Street is certainly a better crossing. However there is a similar lack of distinct bicycle allocation. Connection around the Lloyd district to NE Portland streets remains sketchy. Many commuters consider this to be an unpleasant connection.
Even NE 21st Street is not considered a safe route by PDOT.This leaves a detour all the way to 28th street for less experienced bicycle commuters. The 28th street crossing is considered the best means of crossing the highway.
The SolutionBicycle connection along NE 7th Street
Currently traveling from NE 7th Street includes pleasant bike lanes from Broadway to Lloyd Street
 Upon reaching Lloyd
Traveling from SE 7th Street includes similarly pleasant bike lanes from Harrison St. to Sandy
 Upon reaching Pacific Street
Roadways on either side of I-84 are comfortable for bicycles. Leaving only one critical amenity for safe bicycle commuting.
Estimated cost:1.5 1.7 millionEstimated construction timescale:Less than one year
Based on the design of the Powell crossing of the I-205 path, this element would create a convenient connection for bicycle commuters in Portland.
In order for the bridge to be as efficient as possible, it is recommended that the deck be treated as a roadway rather than a recreational trail. To that end this bridge is designed with separation of vehicular and pedestrian traffic as well as a passing lane.
