TRADAS • Why? • Changes to the count program • Additional benefits • Questions
Why the need for a new database? • HPMS Reassessment – Ramp counts. • Integration with RIS. • Reporting capabilities.
Old and New Databases Old System: HDMS – Traffic and inventory data. Feature based routes. New System: RIS – Inventory data only. Segment based routes. TRADAS – Traffic data only. Data points.
Why the need for a new database? • HPMS Reassessment – Ramp counts. • Integration with RIS. • Reporting capabilities.
Why TRADAS was chosen • TRADAS has been looked into for years. • Few other COTS traffic databases available. • TRADAS in use in ~14 other states.
Changes to the count program Early changes: • Factor Groups reduced to 30, 40, and 60 only. • Speed bins change from two 13 bins schemes to a single 15 bin scheme. • No batch uploads to change station layouts for the 2010 count season.
Changes to the count program Future changes: • Add 14th Class bin and eliminate .Vol files when taking classification counts. • Reporting formats will be updated when run through TRADAS. • AADT differences – Reports from TCE will differ slightly from values stored in TRADAS. • TCE Configuration files will no longer be produced by HDMS.
Additional Benefits • Greater data availability. • Historical data stored in the same database. • Standard reports available for all data. • Standard extracts available for all data.
Additional Benefits New opportunity for alternative data sources such as: • ITS data. • Virtual WIM sites. • NYCDOT? • Other data sources?
Additional Benefits • Faster upload of continuous count data. • Factor calculations. • Historical data clean up. • WIM data quality/availability.
Effects on Traffic Counting and Processing for 2010 • Speed bins. • Factor Groups. • EVERYTHING ELSE STAYS THE SAME!
TRADAS in the Future • Traffic Count Scheduler Application. • Access for Regions. • Web version.
TCE Updates during 2010 • Keep a lookout for TCE updates during the 2010 count year. • The source of the Master Header File and other configuration files may change.
