  2. What’s the Purpose of the UIL? • “The purpose of the UIL is to organize and properly supervise contests that assist in preparing students for citizenship. It aims to provide healthy, character building, educational activities carried out under rules providing for good sportsmanship and fair play for all participants.”—UIL Website

  4. What is our traditional grading period? • We are on a six-week grading period. • Some grading periods are shorter (think first semester)

  5. Who’s Eligible the first six weeks? • Freshman are eligible if promoted from 8th grade. • 5/10/15 rule • Or earn 5 credits the previous year.

  6. Holiday Eligibility • All students are eligible during a school holiday that last one week or longer. • During holidays of a shorter duration eligibility is determined as if school were in session.

  7. Seven Day Grace/Wait Period • Grade checks (3_ & 6-Weeks) • 6-Week (Gain/ Lose Eligibility) • 3-Week (Gain Eligibility Only) • Students gain or lose eligibility 7 days after check. • The “all eligible” holidays are not counted as grace/wait period.

  8. APRIL 2010 6-Weeks ends April 16 Gain or Lose Eligibility on April 23 @ 3:45

  9. 3-Weeks ends March 12th All Eligible March 12 @ 3:45 till April 22 Failures from the previous 6-weeks are ineligible March 22-26 Gain Eligibility on March 26 @ 3:45 MARCH 2010

  10. Advanced Classes and No-Pass No-Play • Students in AP, Pre-AP, and Dual Credit courses may participate with a 65 three-week or six-week average or above in those courses.

  11. Requirements to Regain Eligibility • To regain eligibility students must pass all courses at the three- or six-weeks grade check. Not just the class they failed.
