  2. About Educate Girls About Educate Girls Educate Girls operates in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, spearheading a team of over 18,000 Team Balika volunteers. Over time, they have touched the lives of more than 18.6 million children. These volunteers work tirelessly to challenge gender-based stereotypes and traditional beliefs, striving to re-enroll out-of-school children, especially girls. The need to document and share the inspiring stories emerging from the field was evident, as it could significantly impact the organization's efforts. The Comms Ninja Storytelling Workshop The Comms Ninja Storytelling Workshop The Storytelling workshop organized by Comms Ninja for Educate Girls was structured into three integral parts: Identifying, Extracting, and Writing a story. 1. Identifying the Roadblocks 1. Identifying the Roadblocks The first step involved encouraging the team to reflect on their existing processes and identify the obstacles they encountered. The workshop emphasized the importance of stories with a "twist," not necessarily in the form of sensational discoveries or tragic events, but rather by focusing on internal transformations. Capturing the process of convincing parents, a volunteer's personal challenges, or worldview-shaping experiences could be equally powerful stories. 2. Extracting Solutions through Role 2. Extracting Solutions through Role- -Playing Role-playing activities allowed the team to gain insights into their approach while engaging with beneficiaries during interviews. They discovered the value of forming strong bonds with their own volunteers, as these volunteers spend the most time on the ground. Understanding their volunteers better enabled the regional communications team to extract more meaningful insights from the beneficiaries. Playing 3. Writing a Story 3. Writing a Story In this segment, the team was presented with their own written text samples to analyze and improve. They were encouraged to rethink the use of certain phrases and words to ensure authenticity and depth in their storytelling. The team also learned that the focus or "angle" of a story should emerge only after speaking to all stakeholders involved, avoiding preconceived notions that could make the narrative sound formulaic. Key Insights from the Workshop Key Insights from the Workshop The workshop concluded with several key insights that could enhance the team's storytelling abilities: Story Angle Emergence: A story's angle should evolve naturally once all stakeholders have been interviewed, and a field visit has been conducted to observe the people and challenges involved. Avoiding pre-decided angles makes the narrative more authentic and compelling.

  3. Developing Strong Bonds: Writers need to build deeper connections with the individuals they are writing about, especially grassroots workers, to bring dimension and authenticity to their stories. Challenging Assumptions: The practice of questioning one's own assumptions and beliefs is crucial in producing impactful narratives. Reflecting on personal processes can lead to stronger storytelling.
