What is Stapler Circumcision? It involves removing the skin of the penile organ with the use of a circumcision stapler (also known as an anastomat), an instrument specifically designed for the purpose of circumcision. Staples are fitted over the penis during surgery, and once fired, the stapler removes the foreskin in a single motion, closing the incision with silicone rings and non-bioabsorbable staples. The procedure is extremely safe, as the amount of foreskin to be removed is predetermined in advance, and provides both the patient and the surgeon with the desired results.
What to Expect After Stapler Circumcision Surgery? Following surgery, you will be discharged from the hospital within a few hours so that you may rest and recover at home. You will need to see your urologist 2-3 days following the procedure for a follow-up consultation and wound examination. During this visit, the surgeon will remove the compression bandage and examine the surgical site for signs of bleeding or infection, followed by leaving the wound open for recovery. Within 10-14 days after the incision has healed sufficiently, the silicone ring left on the penis will fall off on its own.
When is Stapler Circumcision Required? • The following is a list of some of the reasons why you might require or want circumcision surgery. • The size, shape, or general appearance of your foreskin may cause aesthetic problems with your penis. • When peeing, you may experience pain or discomfort. • Your foreskin cannot be retracted without pain and bleeding. • When your penis has a foul discharge. • You may experience swelling in your penis, etc.. • In addition to treating balanitis, phimosis and paraphimosis, laser circumcision is quite effective in treating balanoposthitis as well.
What Happens During Stapler Circumcision Surgery? Diagnosis If the stapler circumcision is not medically necessary, then a general health checkup is all that is required as part of the diagnostic process. In some cases, patients are circumcised for religious or aesthetic reasons, in which case, only a general health examination is required prior to surgery. The surgeon will perform a variety of diagnostic tests in order to determine whether you need a circumcision for medical reasons. These tests include: Urinalysis: A laboratory test to determine whether a patient is suffering from UTIs, kidney problems, etc., based on the appearance, concentration, and content of his or her urine. Tissue culture: A culture is performed if any discharge is present, in order to determine whether it is caused by bacteria or fungus Blood tests : In cases of systemic health problems, the patient may be required to undergo blood tests such as random blood sugar tests, bleeding tests, and so on. Procedure Compared to open circumcision, stapler circumcision can provide better results, faster recovery and less pain. It is possible to perform the procedure both under general anesthesia and under local anesthesia. When the patient is anesthetized, the penis is disinfected and the stapler is applied. To prevent tearing of the foreskin and protect the penis glans from the surgical blade, it is important to properly fit the device on the penis. Following the removal of the foreskin, the stapler is activated, which means that a silicone ring is used simultaneously to close the incision. To complete the procedure, the instrument is unscrewed and removed and the penis is pressed with gauze to stop any bleeding. The wound is dressed with a compression bandage and the patient is transferred to the recovery ward to observe the patient after surgery.
Benefits of Stapler Circumcision It is generally considered that circumcision surgery is most commonly performed on adults with penile problems and newborns for religious reasons. The benefits of stapler circumcision outweigh the risks, according to most research studies. It reduces the risk of contracting UTIs, STIs, HIV, and other diseases. It can also lower the risk of men developing penile cancer and their sexual partners developing cervical cancer. The traditional method of circumcision for both of these types of patients was open, but nowadays staplers and lasers are preferred. Of these two techniques, stapler circumcision is preferred because it provides better results with fewer complications. With stapler circumcision, the surrounding tissue is preserved, and the foreskin is removed with minimal blood loss.
Recovery Rate and Tips After Stapler Circumcision Generally, stapler circumcisions are performed in both children and adults with similar recovery steps. However, newborns generally recover faster, with a 7-10 day recovery period. The silicone ring falls off in newborns within 5-7 days, compared to 10-14 days in adults. In order to promote recovery, you may wish to follow the following tips: To prevent the surgical wound from sticking to the diaper, wrap the wound with petroleum jelly and soft gauze, and reapply it after every diaper change. You should also ensure that your baby is not sitting in a wet, dirty diaper for extended periods of time. Keep the diapers loose and do not put any pressure on the surgical incision as you hold your baby. The first few days after surgery, give your baby a sponge bath instead of a proper bath. Do not scrub the penis with a soap or washcloth during the recovery period, only rinse with warm water. Similarly, the recovery tips for adults remain the same, i.e., they should not rub their penis harshly and bandage it for 24-48 hours following surgery. As a precaution against sticking to their underwear, they should wear loose-fitting underwear and use petroleum jelly. Additionally, they must refrain from sexual activity for at least five to six weeks in order to allow time for their penile tissues to heal completely. While laser circumcision is a highly effective treatment for balanitis, phimosis, paraphimosis, and balanoposthitis surgery, any discomfort or pain experienced by the penis should be treated very seriously and promptly, as if the treatment is delayed, irreversible damage may result.
