  3. Protecting Drilling Rigs: Intrusion Detection System for Oil & Gas Industry The importance of the operations carried on the oil and gas industry is very crucial and complex. As the industry is the backbone of global energy production, driving economies and powering societies, its stakes are very high in the

  4. market. It incorporates the employment of many workers in its challenging worksites which are dependent on many external factors. Within this critical sector, it is to be mentioned that drilling rigs play a pivotal role. The ongoing concern around these rigs is based on their location in remote and harsh environments, making them vulnerable to various security threats. Any small incident in a rig has the potential to get converted into a fatal reality. In April 2011, a worker in the drilling rig burst into flames when an intrusion in his work was led by an improperly anchored steel line. Similarly, in January 2018, an oil rig fire in Oklahoma claimed the life of a worker which led to a compensation of $20 million by the company. The gas leak from a condensate pipe which was temporarily closed led to the claiming of the lives of 226 workers on a drilling platform in 1988.
