Fire alarm systems • A fire alarm system comprises of a main controller which provides power to the system and monitors the input through various circuits. • The main controller is an interface which gets activated automatically in the event of fire. • The system also comprises of a smoke detector which detects smoke particles and generates current that triggers an alarm. Types of fire alarm systems There are three types of fire alarm control panels which are conventional, addressable and intelligent. Conventional system • A conventional hard wired system has a simple control unit which monitors power supply and initiates notification signals. • A conventional programmable system can be customized to meet user requirements. • In a programmable system circuits can be programmed to control water flow of sprinklers according to the intensity of fire. Addressable system • An addressable system is a device which is assigned to a unique number. • This system transmits electronic messages through a signaling line circuit which is connected to the control panel. • Addressable devices transmit electronic message back to the control unit in the event of fire. Analog system • An analog system is similar to an addressable system but involves manual operation. • This system collects data from smoke detectors and analyses the intensity of smoke and sounds an alarm.
