  1. Finding the Ideal Deer Hunting Lodge Deer hunting in America remains for many a hunter right at the top of any wish or bucket list, and has been for generations of hunters all across the country. In several Southern states deer hunting and wing-shooting are activities that hunters and shooters look forward to every season, and they start looking early on for the best lodge where they can book themselves and their families a few days away form the big city life. Alabama Black Belt deer hunting often comes up, and seasoned deer hunters all have heard of this geographical region in the state, where it stretches across 23 counties in the state’s central region. Originally used as term to refer to the fertile, rich dark soil the region is famed for, the Black Belt today is known throughout the state, but also much further away, as great destination for fishing, nature walks and hiking, camping, canoeing and whatever outdoors activities the visitor can think of to partake of - and certainly some of the best white-tail deer hunting the hunter could hope for. Because of the fertile land and topography, the region offers the ideal habitat for deer and abundant birdlife, which makes it a haven for the hunter and the wing-shooter that visits for a choice of, among some, quail, dove and pheasant, not forgetting wild turkey. In addition to hunting lodges such as the famed Westervelt Lodge at Aliceville, and a few others, making great income every year, visitors to the Black Belt contribute millions of dollars for the Black Belt region and the greater state. Because it is known as a naturally fertile region where agriculture, timber activities, wing-shooting and deer hunting are the main activities, the region benefits across a wide front. ALBBAA (Alabama Black Belt Adventures Association) is a non- profit organization that does a lot to help promote the region among the wider public, thereby creating greater awareness, resulting in more hunters and wing-shooters among visitors arriving to spend money, which is great for the region, for business and the state of Alabama. Because of initiatives led by groups such as ALBBAA and others, the Black Belt now stands out among many for its profile as a preferred hunting destination, and especially for the deer hunter. Alabama Black Belt deer hunting is now within reach of so many: the region is promoted more than in the past, lodges compete for business and the state benefits. The lodges that benefit more than others are those known for the trouble they go to in order for their hunters and shooters to be offered the best quality buck, trophies and birds. This includes good accommodation and friendly service, but more than that also the deer management and deer habitat management plans they have in place to ensure a well-raised herd and healthy birds which hunters and wing-shooters are happy to pay for. Because of their efforts to offer the visitor a great experience, the best lodges quickly build a name for themselves as preferred destination, and word gets around which the best lodges in the Black Belt are, focusing the attention squarely on them. These lodges know they compete with others in the region and pull out all the stops to ensure their hunters are offered a wonderful time, which also spills over to the rest of hunters that may be interested in visiting the Black Belt. Of course not only lodges in the Black Belt benefit, but the greater state too. It is, in fact, beneficial for all involved if lodges in the Black Belt do their bit to help promote the region, as it draws the hunters and shooters who are the ones that bring in the money to help lift the state’s profile.
