  1. Introduction In this modern era, where security is of supreme importance, PIR security cameras have unfolded as a groundbreaking solution for the security of residential and commercial areas as they can monitor those areas effectively and efficiently. These cameras use technology to detect motion through infrared radiation, giving us something different from traditional cameras that rely on continuous monitoring. In this blog, we’ve discussed what are PIR cameras, how they work, and some major benefits of PIR. So, let’s delve into the details of PIR cameras. What are PIR Security Cameras? PIR stands for Passive Infra-Red and it is a technology that is used in security cameras for motion detection. PIR technology inside cameras recognises the light that emits from nearby objects, which helps in sensing any movement near their surroundings, and that’s why they are more efficient, whereas most of the other cameras only have one feature which is to record continuously. These cameras only activate and record when they detect any motion, saving energy and storage space. Continuous monitoring is not necessary every time, that is when motion-detecting cameras become handy. These cameras are revolutionary as they can detect the presence of intruders in commercial and residential areas. As we’ve told you, these cameras recognise the light that emits from an object especially when they are warm objects that include humans and animals, and this makes them ideal for security purposes.

  2. How do they work? All objects that have a temperature greater than absolute 0 degrees’ Celsius produce radiation. That energy is radiated in the form of heat because heat radiates in infrared wavelengths, which cannot be seen through the naked eye but the electronic sensors that have been constructed for this purpose can detect them. When it comes to burglar alarms, this technology works with a circuit that connects two electrical nodes to activate an alarm. When the passive infra-red sensors detect any movement it activates the transmitter that breaks the circuits and activates the alarm to sound. The PIR sensors function by detecting fluctuations in infrared levels. The sensors work by detecting positive differential change and have two infrared-sensitive slots in front of the lens, and the detection range depends on the slots ’field of vision’. While both slots are inactive they sense the same surrounding infrared radiation in the room emitted by the objects in the room. If a person walks into a room, then the movement of that person will trigger the camera and it will start to record that or it will send an alert to the system connected to it. It is crucial to completely enclose the PIR sensor with a material, like silicon, that can reduce the impact of external temperature and humidity.

  3. What are the benefits of PIR? What are the benefits of PIR? PIR cameras have several benefits, which are: ● Accurate Motion Detection: One of the prominent features of the PIR cameras is that they can detect motion accurately. The specialty of these cameras is that they focus on the heat that comes from moving objects which mitigates the risk of false alarms caused by non-relevant movements like tumbling leaves. ● Energy efficiency: These cameras are engineered for energy efficiency and they usually operate in energy-saving standby mode until it detects motion. This trait is not only energy efficient but, also extends the durability of the power source of cameras, making it ideal for remote areas where it is hard to install such cameras. ● Cost-effective: Usually these cameras are more affordable than other motion detection technologies such as AI motion detection, Advanced AI algorithms, morphology-based detection, and smart intrusion prevention, making them more accessible for diverse users.

  4. Conclusion PIR cameras have made a significant transformation in the world of surveillance technology. They provide a different solution for those who are looking for reliable security measures as they can detect motion efficiently, are energy efficient, and are versatile across various environments. The demand for effective security solutions is growing day by day, and it is quite obvious that the adaptation of PIR technology will likely play a crucial role in safeguarding properties and will also give peace of mind to the people in this uncertain world.
