A place where you can lose your mind but find your soul. The entire trail length is almost 10 miles and is graded as strenuous in Trail Difficulty rating. However, no one compels you to take the entire trail in one go. Due to rapid rise in elevation, approx. 1600 feet, you would be amazed to witness the panoramic views and occasional flora and fauna. The destination of the trail leads to the Shadow Mountain Lookout, a three storied structure, built in 1933 and manned for almost 35 years. It is now added to the National Register of Historic Places, restored in the mid 90’s to make it the only surviving fire lookout in the Rocky Mountain National Park Those amongst you who dare to reach this spot would be awarded with spectacular views of the Shadow Mountain Lake, Grand Lake, the Never Summer Mountains, and the towering mountains that span the Continental Divide. There have been reports that the catwalk located in the third story was closed due to rotting of the wood. Exercise caution and embark on the same only if it is safe to do so.
