Charity saving refugees, feeding hungry declines to work with freelance reporter Frank Stier Not for profit says reporter had apparent religious or political agenda (PR NewsChannel) / February 11, 2015 / SARASOTA, Fla. and SOFIA, Bulgaria Global Village Champions Foundation, co-founded more than two decades ago by philanthropists Yank and Yvette Barry and boxing legend Muhammad Ali, says it has declined to work with a freelance reporter who had an apparent political or religious agenda. GVCF says after trying to cooperate with Frank Stier for several weeks, it became clear that the German freelance reporter based in Sofia, Bulgaria had a hidden agenda, so the charity has elected to withdraw its participation. “I wanted to let you know that we will no longer cooperate with you and the ‘article’ you are attempting to write,” wrote Glenn Selig, the charity’s spokesman, in an email to the freelance reporter Frank Stier, made public today. “Your actions—both before we spoke and after—are indicative of someone who has no intention of being fair, but of someone who intends to tell any ‘story,’ factually-based or not.” Though the charity is non-political, some may consider the work that philanthropist Yank Barry does to be controversial. Barry is Jewish and he is saving lives of Muslim and Christian refugees who fled violence in their home countries of Syria, Iran and Iraq. Barry and Global Village have received news coverage from all over the world and from some of the largest and most prominent news organizations: CNN, NBC News, Jerusalem Post, Canada’sGlobe and Mail, Reuter’s, Agence France Presse, The Washington Post, The Guardian (U.K.) and many, many others. For his work saving refugees, the media has called Barry the “Jewish Schindler.” Barry recently reached a milestone of rescuing 1,218 refugees from certain death. Oskar Schindler, the German industrialist and Catholic, saved 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust. “GVCF is working in conjunctionwith the Bulgarian government to make every rescue possible,” says Selig. “Yank Barry has fed and/or housed and cared for each of the 1,218 refugees. The ones he rescued from camps, he personally guaranteed their safety and has promised to take care of them so they can reclaim their lives.” Barry has a colorful past. He is a former rock and roll musician with a drug problem who hit rock bottom more than 40 years ago and even spent time in prison. While in prison for a little over a year, he vowed to reform his life and become a do-gooder. He went on to earn a fortune as a food entrepreneur creating and selling a wildly popular soy product called Vitapro which has allowed him to personally fund the extraordinary GVCF efforts of rescuing refugees and feeding the hungry around the world.
