  2. WHAT IS UPSC? The UPSC is India's premier central recruiting agency responsible for selecting candidates for various civil services and government jobs. ● Formed on October 1, 1926, under the Government of India Act, 1919 ●

  3. Significance of UPSC Nation's Backbone: UPSC plays a pivotal role in selecting candidates for key administrative positions, ensuring efficient governance. ● Meritocracy: The examination promotes merit-based selection, fostering a competent and diverse civil service. ●

Currently, the UPSC consists of a chairman and ten members. ● ● ● ●

  5. History of UPSC Introduction of All India Services through the Government of India Act, 1935. UPSC's role expanded after independence with the framing of the Constitution of India in 1950. Conducted the first Civil Services Examination (CSE) in 1951. Introduction of the Combined Civil Services Examination (CCSE) in 1950. ● ● ● ●

  10. Interference of the UPSC Data- Over the course of 17 years, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of applications submitted by the aspirants. You can observe a sharp increase in applications from 2012 to 2013 and a sharp decrease in the same from 2016 to 2017. There has been a positive growth in the overall number of students turning up for the preliminary exams. Throughout the period of 17 years, the number of students qualifying for the mains has fluctuated, occasionally rising and occasionally falling. ● ● ● ●

  11. Interference of the UPSC Data- Not all students who have qualified for the mains have opted to attempt it; there is a slight variance between the number of qualified students and those who actually attempted the mains, except for the year 2015, where the numbers are the same. Moving on to the interview stage, the figures have been reduced by more than fifty percent, and only a restricted number of students get chosen for the interview. Following the comprehensive assessment of students, considering their overall performance and interview results, the number of candidates is once again reduced by over 50%, resulting in the final selection of candidates for the UPSC posts. ● ● ●

  12. Civil Services Offered IAS (Indian Administrative Service): Administration and policy formulation. IPS (Indian Police Service): Law enforcement and public safety. IFS (Indian Foreign Service): Diplomacy and international relations. IRS (Indian Revenue Service): Revenue collection and taxation. ● ● ● ●
