What is the “H2O” of church? • Jesus went up the mountain and called to him those whom he wanted, and they came to him. And he appointed twelve, whom he also named apostles, to be with him, and to be sent out to proclaim the message, and to have authority to cast out demons. (Mark 3:13-15) Reimagining Church 3

Isaiah 43 14 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: For your sake I will send to Babylon and break down all the bars, and the shouting of the Chaldeans [Babylonians] will be turned to lamentation. 15 I am the Lord, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King. 16 Thus says the Lord, who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters, 17 who brings out chariot and horse, army and warrior; they lie down, they cannot rise, they are extinguished, quenched like a wick: 18 Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. 19 I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. 20 The wild animals will honour me, the jackals and the ostriches; for I give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to give drink to my chosen people, 21 the people whom I formed for myself so that they might declare my praise. Prayer • Lord, thank you for calling us to be your children and your servants. Thank you for those traditions of the church which have nurtured us and comforted us over the years. We grieve for those who have never experienced your love, and for those have turned away from you. We think of friends and family members of whom that is true. • Have mercy, Lord Reimagining Church 3
Thank you that you are the God of new beginnings—for creation itself, for your call to Abraham and Sarah, for bringing Israel out of slavery in Egypt into the Promised Land. Thank you for bringing the people back from exile in Babylon, and giving them a fresh start in the land. Above all, thank you for the new beginning represented by the coming of your Son Jesus to our world. And thank you for the times in our own lives when you have given us grace to begin again. • Thank you, Lord. Reimagining Church 3
We confess to you that we are often afraid when you put new challenges in front of us. Forgive us the times when we have missed opportunities to serve you in new ways through fear or selfishness or simply being too comfortable. • Have mercy, Lord. Reimagining Church 3
As we face changes in our world, we are grateful that you go before us and “prepare good works for us to walk in.” Thank you that you know the future, and that you promise us all the resources we need in order to follow you. Be with us as we move into your good future, whatever that may mean for us and our churches. • Thank you, Lord. Reimagining Church 3
worship Will you come and follow me if I but call your name? Will you go where you don't know and never be the same? Will you let my love be shown? Will you let my name be known? Will you let my life be grown in you and you in me? Will you leave yourself behind if I but call your name? Will you care for cruel and kind and never be the same? Will you risk the hostile stare should your life attract or scare? Will you let me answer prayer in you and you in me? 31 Reimagining Church 3
Will you let the blinded see if I but call your name? Will you set the prisoners free and never be the same? Will you kiss the leper clean and do such as this unseen, and admit to what I mean in you and you in me? Lord, your summons echoes true when you but call my name. Let me turn and follow you and never be the same. In Your company I'll go where Your love and footsteps show. Thus I'll move and live and grow in you and you in me. 32 Reimagining Church 3

Merciful God, creator of the peoples on earth and lover of souls, have compassion on all who do not know you as you are revealed in your son Jesus Christ. Let your Gospel be preached with grace and power to those who have not heard it, turn the hearts of those who resist it, and bring home to your flock those who have gone astray; that there may be one flock under one shepherd, Jesus Christ our Lord.
