PROBLEM • Insufficient housing: Over 1,000 neighbours on waiting list (Waiting period: 7 years) • Inadequate support: Lack of community housing and support for persons with mental health challenges increases pressure on hospitals already facing bed shortages and gridlock. Individuals who can access hospital do not get comprehensive supports. FCMHAS has supports but no housing units.

IMPACT RECOGNITION In the past year: • Provided support to 3,000 individuals • Responded to over 11,000 calls on crisis line • Assisted 1,500 families in Family Resource Centre • Helped 1,000 people manage their addictions • Diverted 325 people from hospital ER • Provided year-round supported housing for 218 people with a vacancy rate less than 1.5% • Diverted 113 from courts to community services • 88 area residents of at risk of homelessness retained housing 2011 2007

SOLUTION Our Organization • Track Record: over forty years providing housing and support services to persons facing mental illness and addictions. • Team: 180 member team including psychiatrists, social workers and counselors providing a continuum of services – employment, court support, community support, addictions counseling, crisis services, and residential support. • Assets: 14 residential holdings with 165 units ranging from detached houses to apartments.

  7. SOLUTION: 35 LYONS STREET • 25 single unit suites • Amenities: common room, laundry, parking, bike racks, rent inclusive of utilities • Energy efficiencies include: geothermal ground source heat pump system, gas used for hot water and energy star appliances • Accessible
