  2. Brief History • Started as District Justice and Peace Desk (DJPC) in 1991 • DJPC creation was to activate the network of La Salle Schools nationwide to respond to urgent issues facing the country • Mandate is the promotion of justice and peace

  3. Past Involvements & Current Engagements • As a coordination body on efforts toward more action for justice and peace LJPC has involved in many advocacies & projects: • Erap Resign Movement (2001) • Gloria Resign Movement (2005-2007) : Issued 4 public statements until 2010 • Call for Accountability and Transparency (2013) • One Million People March (2013) • Community development programs & disaster response • One La Salle Yolanda Rehabilitation & Recovery Project (OLSYRRP)

  4. LJPC Advocacy Themes • Good Governance and Peace • Democracy, Peace and Human Rights • PDAF Accountability & Peace in Mindanao (past 2 years) • Poverty Alleviation • CBMS • Youth at Risk • Disaster Risk Reduction & Management (DRRM) • CBMS • Relief Operations (e.g. Typhoon Nona) • OLSYRRP

  5. Goal of Advocacy Engagements Raise the level of awareness of Lasallians (students, teachers, personnel, administrators) and partner communities on human rights and democracy

Objectives of Advocacy Engagements • Conduct teachers’ training on teaching contemporary history with special focus on martial law in all 16 La Salle schools • Provide guidelines on good leadership and active citizenship • Organize awareness-raising activities (at least three types of activities) • Fora, Exhibits, Reflection sessions • Roundtable discussions, Vigils, Candle-lighting • Thematic mass/prayer service, Online campaigns • Creative ways of awareness raising • Integrating culture into awareness-raising

Objectives of Advocacy Engagements • Empower/mobilize Lasallians and partners to contribute to larger advocacy efforts • Rally • Songfest/vigils • Policy advocacy (internal/ external- immediate communities, etc) • Rehabilitation • Networking and linkages (iDefend, Duyan ng Magiting, CBCP/AMRSP/CEAP/MAPSA) • Strengthen research, data banking and documentation on human rights and democracy • Crafting user-friendly infographics, posters, gifs, etc.

  8. LJPC Now • One single National Coordinator unlike in the past where there was a national coordinator and 2 program staff • Works with SAO of the schools • With annual operations budget
