Monday, March 11, 2013 • 1. Quiet Question: Type Two Prompt---Ms. Barben is going to read aloud “The HistoryMakers-Siddhartha Gautama the Enlightened One.” As she does, you should be doing Active Reading/Talking to the Text. After reading the article, you will now answer the following three questions. You should be using your notes on the Religions of India to help you answer the questions. • a)Explain what Buddha means by the quote at the top of the reading. Provide a MINIMUM OF THREE DIFFERENT supportive points, beliefs, practices of Buddhism from the reading and your notes that supports the quote. • b)Do you agree with Buddha’s ideas that all life is suffering? Why or why not? Explain with a MINIMUM OF TWO DIFFERENT examples from history, current events, and/or your life that support your answer. • c)How did Buddha’s message about the caste system and other beliefs undermine Hindu society? Provide a MINIMUM OF TWO DIFFERENT examples and explain them.
