Challenges & suggestions for solutions • Competition for students • The awareness of NOVA at adjacent areas are not high • Agriculture is regarded as a problem in terms of environment • In the communication there could be focus on the potential of initiating a sustainable development by agricultural research (unlike just studying the development)
Challenges & suggestions for solutions • Low budget for communication • Change of management every two years • Difficult to communicate effectively in different national / political / cultural contexts • Creation of stabile network between NOVA and communication officers/study administrations • Utilize existing communication channels • Appointment of contact persons with responsibility for conveying information • Shearing news, announcements about courses, network etc
Challenges & suggestions for solutions • Lack of coherence between courses (timing & level) • Difficult to get overview of best study possibilities • Enable long term planning • Leaflet for student to be used at the introduction week • Article and poster at the beginning of each academic year • Oblige former students at NOVA to link to the NOVA fan page at facebook, write an article etc • Appointment of NOVA student ambassadors
Main Target groups • Students at member universities • Staff at member universities • Other university communities (biology etc) • Politicians, media, general public etc
Communication channels • Using existing resources more efficiently • Web pages, intranet, social medias, newsletter, events etc at member universities
New medias • NOVA should have a Facebook fan page (supplement to official NOVA web page) • Should be promoted by the existing social medias at member universities and NOVA web page • Need for commitment & responsibility
Sharing information • Establish communication network for sharing news on courses etc. • Articles, videos, photos etc • Students should be encouraged to share their experiences from NOVA courses • To be published at social medias, web pages, newsletters, students magazines... • Article once a year aimed at teachers giving information on funding possibilities
Printed material • Inspiring brochure/leaflet to be handed out to students at the beginning of their studies • Emphasizing “the Nordic perspective” on sustainable development • Opportunities for establishing network
Responsibilities • The NOVA general secretary have the overall responsibility • Local NOVA coordinators will play a vital part in securing that relevant information is conveyed • Awareness and commitment among relevant communication staff
