I have many great accomplishments under my belt as well. I’m well known for being a great violinist, amateur scientist, and a accomplished architecture designer. My beautiful home Monticello which I designed is known for its beautiful Ancient Greek and Roman architecture, best known for the dome topped roof. They designed several buildings in our nation’s capital after my Monticello, namely the Capital Building. I also founded the University of Virginia and wrote the Virginia Statue of Religious Freedom. I was also voted in as the 3rd President of the United States and I am responsible for making the Louisiana Purchase which doubled the size of the United States. Thomas Jefferson Jefferson was the author of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. Signed on July 4, 1776 the Declaration declared our Independence from Great Britain and pushed into the American Revolution. One of the most well known lines for the D of I ”…certain unalienable Rights…Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” As President, Jefferson made the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. With the purchase of Louisiana Territory from France for $15 million the United States doubled its size. The Louisiana Purchase opened up new land for Westward Movement. Monticello was the beloved home of Jefferson. He designed the home and began construction in 1768. He took inspiration from classical European architecture. The home was placed on his 5,000 acre plantation. It is now open to tourist around the world. The Statue was passed in 1789 into State Law and was used as an example when creating the 1st Amendment to the US Bill of Rights. After serving as US President, Jefferson decided to found the University of Virginia. The University first opened its doors in 1819 and was supported not only by Jefferson but also friends Madison and Monroe. It originally was located on part of Monroe’s property.
