Canada’s Largest Public-Private Partnership • Bruce Power generates up to 6,400 MW from 8 CANDU Units. • All output is sold under contract with the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) and the Site is under a long-term lease from the Province. • Bruce Power’s role is a key element in Ontario’s Long Term Energy Plan (LTEP). • Nuclear power plants in Canada are federally regulated by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC). • In the 1990s, after Ontario Hydro closed four nuclear units on what is now the Bruce Power, the use of coal-fired electricity jumped drastically as did the number of smog days. A Low-Cost Electricity Source • Bruce Power produces approximately four times as much electricity as Niagara Falls • Equivalent to the annual energy use of more than 5,000,000 homes • Enough electricity to power the Province of Nova Scotia for nearly five years
Nuclear Up, Emissions Down • Ontario was the first jurisdiction in North America to end its use of coal-fired electricity, when it closed the Thunder Bay Generating Station in April 2014. • In 2015, Ontario passed legislation to permanently ban coal-fired electricity generation in the province - a first in North America and a significant step in the fight against climate change.

Nuclear Up, Emissions Down • In 2005, the Greater Toronto Area suffered from 53 smog days. • Through coal phase-out and clean air initiatives, the province had zero smog days in 2015. • According to a Ministry of Energy report, phasing out coal could avoid 25,000 emergency room visits, 20,000 hospital admissions and more minor illness cases, resulting in a financial benefit of $2.6 billion annually. • Closing coal-fired power plants represents one of the largest greenhouse gas reduction initiatives in North America. The closure has eliminated more than 30 megatonnes of annual GHG emissions, equivalent to taking seven-million vehicles off our roads.
IMPORTANCE OF AN EMISSIONS-FREE, BALANCED SUPPLY MIX As the world moves toward further electrification, it will be important to ensure that a balanced supply mix, with emissions-free options is pursued.
Commitment to Ontario • 22,000 direct and indirect jobs annually. • $4 billion in annual economic benefit to Ontario through the direct and indirect spending. • Life extension will support an additional 5,000 direct and indirect jobs annually. • It will also add $980 million-$1.2 billion in labour income into the Ontario economy annually. • Isotope development will be a key value-add the company will continue to expand in 2018.
Partnership with our Local Communities • Bruce Power owes much of its success to its surrounding communities. • Our goal is to ensure the full benefits of life extension are realized by the local economy. • Improved contracting process to encourage local economic growth. • Companies doing work with Bruce Power will now provide a breakdown of the total price of the work to be completed within: • Bruce, Grey, Huron counties; • Across Ontario; • While also indicating total value of work that will be performed in Canada.
Isotopes • Bruce Power has a long-term agreement with Ottawa-based Nordion to produce over half the world’s supply of Cobalt-60. • LSA Cobalt-60 is used for: • Sterilization of medical equipment. • Sterilization of consumer products and food. • Combat spread of Zika virus. • HSA Cobalt-60: • Only produced in a small number of nuclear reactors globally. • Radiation-based treatment of cancer and other diseases. • Non invasive treatment: Gamma Knife. • MOU established to determine the feasibility of producing short-lived medical-use isotopes at Bruce Power.
