7th APRU Doctoral Students Conference (DSC) • Hosted by NUS from 17 – 21 July 2006 • Theme: • “Inventing the Future: Trends, Perspectives and Enterprise from the Pacific Rim” • New Initiative: • APRU Enterprise Business Plan Competition – Extra Chapter Challenge (ECC)
APRU Doctoral Students Conference (DSC) • Organised by APRU Doctoral Students Network (DSN) • a self-governed graduate student organisation • Aims to bring doctoral students in the Pacific Rim together for intellectual and social interactions • Papers presented address a range of topics grouped under an annual theme
Extra Chapter Challenge (ECC) • New initiative spearheaded by APRU Enterprise Coordinating Group (AECG) and APRU DSN • A business plan competition to encourage doctoral students to create value from their graduate student research • Open to doctoral students in any discipline at APRU universities • Top 3 participants will win prize money of about US$ 20,000
ECC Guidelines • Must be doctoral students • Business proposals must relate to dissertation research • Students submit a 2 - 4 page proposal/letter of recommendation • Each university to announce its selected ECC participants
ECC Guidelines • Students submit 25 - 30 page final proposal to ECC Organising Committee • Competition commences at NUS on 17 July 2006 • Top 3 winners announced on 21 July 2006
Recommended Financial Support for ECC • About US$ 6,000 per student • Covers a 4-month stipend, or one term, to work on the project • Includes a travel award • covers airfare and registration fee to attend the final ECC competition in Singapore
7th APRU DSC and ECC • Registration fees waived for DSC • ECC participants pay a subsidised amount of US$ 260 • 6 nights of free lodging at NUS residence • No. registered for DSC: 104 • No. registered for ECC: 6 • For more information, log on • http://www.fas.nus.edu.sg/APRU/
