  2. Function • SPS • Detect system conditions outside of established operating limits that need to be mitigated faster than possible with Operator initiated Remedial Action Plans. • Automatically take pre-planned corrective action. • Reduce generation or demand. • Change system configuration.

Benefits • Market • Reduces the need to limit resources (OOME/OOMC) under normal system conditions. • Reliability • Increase in transfer capability and reduction in capacity constraint without significant reduction in reliability. • Successful SPS operation ensures appropriate level of reliability.

  4. General • Seventeen installed and active SPS. • Includes 5 series reactive devices. • Majority are: • Based on thermal limitations. • Back down or trip generation to mitigate line flow • Operations • Seven SPS events (2004-present)
