Sport Pilot Privileges (Basic Level) • Day Operations • 3 miles visibility or greater • Uncontrolled airspace • Cross country flights OK, any distance • Up to 10,000 feet MSL • Flight anywhere in the US • Foreign countries with approval from their CAA 19
Sport Pilot Limitations (Basic Level) • Fly only Light-Sport Aircraft (LSA) • Category & Class plus Make/Model “set” • LSA < 87 knots • No Class A airspace (reserved for airliners) • 3 miles visibility or greater • No compensation or for-hire operations • May not tow any object • Operate in U.S. only 20
Sport Pilot Privileges (Add Endorsement via Logbook Entry) Additional Training and Endorsements allow: • Operation in Class B, C, and D airspace • Additional category and class privilege • Additional make and model set aircraft • LSA > 87 knots @ max. continuous power NO additional tests required 21
Medical • Auto Driver’s License or 3rd Class medical to prove medical fitness • Not required for balloon or glider • HOWEVER, if pilot’s most recent medical application was denied, revoked or suspended, he/she cannot auto use driver’s license • Special Issuance is NOT a denial FAR 61.23 22
Self Certification All Pilots Must Self Certify before each flight…. Must have no medical condition that would make pilot unable to operate a Light-Sport Aircraft in a safe manner FAR 61.23/53/303 23

Imported S-LSAs? Same Basic Requirements: • Aircraft must comply with Industry Consensus Standards • Manufacturer issues “Statement of Compliance” by serial number Plus: • Country of manufacture is U.S. bilateral partner • New aircraft eligible for flight authorization • On foreign aircraft registry, and • No previous Airworthiness Certificate 31
E-LSA Kits New Airworthiness Certification Process • Up to 99% complete at factory • Does not need to meet Amateur Built (51%) rule • Manufacturer must build one aircraft to show compliance with Industry Consensus Standard • Design, production, and maintenance • Manufacturer issues Statement of Compliance 32
