Consider the choices the group made about about movement, use of voice, understanding of the text, and costumes. Write a detailed paragraph (or more) about what you liked and appreciated about the scene. Make sure you write much more than I have written here. Act 5 performance on Monday, June 2.

You will have the remainder of class for rehearsal. HW for next class (this slide is online) Read over your lines several times. Then do it again. You should be memorized, letter-perfect, with volume and expression. Make sure that you have the completed scene grade sheet and any costume and prop items you need for your scene and understand on what you will be graded when you perform. Act 3 performances on Thursday, May 29, Act 5 on Friday.

  10. Much Ado About NothingclassWednesday, May 21, 2014 Prepare to rehearse. Where will the scene take place? Be very specific. Is there any furniture, or trees, or doorways? Movement is related to the physical landscape of the playing space. Begin to block the scene. Make sure that proximity means something. HW for next class (this slide is online) • Read over your lines several times • Scene background and character biography assignment • (Write on your own paper. 20 points, due Thursday 5/22) •  1. Describe the setting of the scene: time, place (in detail) •  2. What does your character want or need in the scene? (that’s the character’s objective) •  3. Describe the relationship between the characters: past, present, and future. Remember proximity matters: how close people stand to each other shows something about their relationship. •  4. Where was your character, and what was she doing, in the moment before your scene? •  5. Describe your character’s history: how old is she or he, how many siblings, where in the birth order, family situation now, job, how good at job, where does she live, what kind of a place is it, what foods does he like, what is his favorite color, how does she like to dress, etc.

  11. Much Ado About NothingclassTuesday, May 20, 2014 Edit your script. Time your cutting to makes sure you have 1-2 minutes per person. Share your version with Mr. Rosen. We will need each person to have a copy of the script. Prepare to rehearse. Where will the scene take place? Be very specific. Is there any furniture, or trees, or doorways? Movement is related to the physical landscape of the playing space. HW for next class Write all of the lines that you will say on index cards. Make sure to include the 3-8 words that are said right before you speak, so you know when it is your turn to say your lines. This is called your cue.

What will they do with that information? • Be prepared to watch a staged version of 2.3-Act 3.

What do they show about what is happening in Benedick’s heart and mind. What is he changing about himself? What is he forgetting to do? What behaviors have changed? Explain.
