Background • OECD micro-level data feasibility study • Recruited Consultant to examine Amadeus & ORBIS databases – Firm level data, balance sheet information, Europe/R.O.W. Final Report end August. • OECD Horizontal Group considering all commercial datasets – consultant will start to evaluate all datasets, beginning August.
Findings so far • Issues – Quality, Coverage, Representivity, good EU coverage but thresholds differ across countries. • ORBIS quality in OECD countries generally good. • Proposal to link with SBS data. • But coverage of micro-enterprises limited • Rich source for entrepreneur characteristics – owners, high-growth, industry, etc
Horizontal Group to consider • AMADEUS: uses official sources, extensive company coverage – over 6 million European companies. Ownership Database includes group structures and shareholders with their percentage of interest. An Independence Indictor signifies a company’s degree of independence with its shareholders. Uniform industry codes, cross-referenced to all national and international codes. Integrated analysis functionality and flexible pricing options • ORBIS combines data from all of Bureau van Dijk’s company information databases, provides info on 10 million companies, including approximately 8 million European companies from 34 countries. Horizontal Group to consider • Global Business Browser Very full financial data. Extensive industry data from data providers such as Thomson Investext, • Dunn and Bradsteet provides information on 75 million companies in 214 countries worldwide. It offers individual company/country reports which can be purchased online. Further information: www.dnb.com • Dialog Company Profiles provides seamless access to a wide variety of well known databases, covers approx 52,000 European companies. Financial data includes balance sheet, insider buyer and selling information, and major shareholders. Further information: • www.ft.com • DEALogic –M&A activity worldwide covering transactions including public offers, open market purchases, stock swaps, buy-outs, privatizations, recapitalisations, share buy-backs and acquisitions.
