Narrow Passageways • Defined: • Navigating through a narrow passageway by modifying human guide technique in order to walk through the narrow space.
Purpose: • To keep the guide and the traveler safe from collision with others and other objects in the narrow passageway.
When to use: • This technique could be used while going in and out of doorways or in crowded areas
How To: • The guide will drop their arm behind their back while the traveler slides their hand from the guide’s elbow to their forearm. • The guide’s arm will be diagonal behind their back, and the traveler’s arm will be straight. • The traveler can then follow in a single file line behind the guide.
Prerequisite Skills: • Basic Human Guide Techniques
Mastery: • Successfully and safely navigating through a narrow passageway
Teaching Suggestions: • The teacher should make sure the student’s arm is straight so as not to bump into the guide. • Make sure the guide’s arm is directly behind them so that the traveler is behind them and out of harm’s way.
