In Source C it states that the Japanese were ‘their new masters’.

  4. The sources differ in their view of who was considered a foe to the people. In Source B, it states that the foes were the British and Americans who were the ‘common enemy’. In Source C, it is the Japanese who were the foe. In the source it states that ‘The Japanese…were hated by almost everyone’.

  5. The purpose of the two sources differ. Source B aims to persuade the people of Malaya to provide information on the westerners so that the Japanese could capture any fugitives.
