We have all seen them somewhere. Buddha Statues. They are everywhere and every one has one somewhere. In their garden, in their living room, kitchen etc. We like them because it looks exotic, because it was a present and you don’t give Buddha away or maybe because you are a Buddhist. But for most of us it’s just a decoration. • What do they represent? A Buddha statue stands for the hope for peace and harmony of every owner of the house.
Buying a Buddha Statue • When you want to buy a Buddha statue, you have to keep some things in mind; • Try a laughing Buddha first. If you buy your first Buddha, start with this one. These are known as the Buddha of Wealth and Buddha of Happiness, so why not buying one of these? • Bigger is better. It is believed that the bigger the Buddha the more energy it gives. • Try to look for any symbols. The laughing Buddha can have a pot of gold or a sack with treasures.
Where To Place A Buddha Statue? • Having a Buddha in your house is believed to bring calm energy. So if you have a busy hectic life, it helps creating a sense of balance in your lifestyle. Besides that, there are statues that bring wealth, health and good luck. • In order for these things to happen, you have to make sure to put the statue in the right place.
There are a few things you can consider before you put your statue somewhere; • What sort of Buddha is it? A laughing Buddha? Known as the happy Buddha, is one of the most popular statues. It brings good luck and wealth among others. So if you keep one at home, it is believed to bring success, prosperity and happiness. How to recognize this Buddha? Smiling face, protruding belly and carrying symbolisms of wealth like a pot of gold or a sack with treasures. • Buying one for your home? Try to buy a bigger one and place it directly facing the main door. You can also place it on your side table or corner table that is located diagonally opposite of your front door but still facing the door. • With other Buddha’s, avoid placing them on the ground or in spots below the soles of your feet. This is a sign of disrespect. • Many FengShui would recommend placing it above eye level. This is what I’ve seen a lot in Cambodia as well. This is a position of reverence and respect.
Students can place a Buddha statue also on their desk where they study for it is believed to assist the students in reaching their goals. Make sure the place you keep it is clean and uncluttered. • Keep a Buddha statue away from places where they can see inappropriate sightings or from smelly places like a toilet. Do not place a Buddha in your kitchen or bathroom. • Do not place a Buddha near equipment with moving parts, motors or electrical outlets. The sounds of these items tend to disturb the surrounding energy. • A garden is good place to put your Buddha. Especially if you have a meditation Buddha. These are in the sitting position with both hands placed over the other. The left hand on top over the right one. • So if you follow these basic principles, the Buddha will give that positive energy to your home and to you.
