The reason behind this state of mind can be the different types of incubators. The various industry terms used for referring chicken egg incubators can be baffling. Well if you’re also one of those guys, who are new to egg incubation field, then here’s a list of all significant terms that must be aware of: Air cell: The pocket of air within the egg at the end. It gets larger as the incubation process advances. Blastoderm: This really is actually the nucleus of the egg when it is fertilised. Bloom: The protective coating found on freshly laid eggs which helps seal the pores of the egg. It prevent bacterias. Also known as the cuticle. Broody: It’s a hen that sits on a clutch of eggs in order to hatch them. Candler: The light used to witness the inside of an egg. Candling: Looking inside the egg using a bright light source. Clutch: The type of eggs a hen decides to gather before getting broody and hatching them. Embryo: The developing chick while still inside the egg. Forced Air: Having a fan in an incubator forcing the air to circulate. Germinal Disc: The fertilisation site in the egg, on the yolk. Also referred to as blastoderm or even blastodisc. Hatch: The procedure for a chick getting itself out of the egg shell. Hatch Rate: Percentage of eggs which hatched into chicks. If 9 out of 10 hatches, then the hatch rate is considered to be 90%. Humidity: Number of water vapour available in the air of the incubator. Hygrometer: Device used to measure humidity Incubation: Subjecting the eggs to perfect hatching conditions for the suitable amount of time while controlling heat and humidity to be able to hatch the chickens. Incubation Period: Amount of time every egg takes to develop fully. Example, chickens have a 21-day incubation time while ducks have a 28-day incubation interval. Incubator: An object or tool used to incubate eggs that holds them in heat and humidity. Lockdown: The final 3 days of incubation, when humidity is increased to appropriate level and the incubator locked to not open in order to prevent the loss of humidity from inside.
