  1. Making, Enforcing, or Interpreting? So you want to be a Law Expert? Well, work through this training program to explore how rules and laws are made, interpreted and enforced in our community and country.

  2. Definitions • Making Laws: Making laws means creating new rules or laws that the community has to follow • Enforcing Laws: Enforcing laws means making sure that the laws are followed and enforcing consequences for not following the laws. • Interpreting Laws: Interpreting laws means judging whether or not a person is following the law or not.

  3. Your assignment… • Your job is to read through the situations on the next several slides. Then you must decide, as a team, whether the people in the situation are making, interpreting, or enforcing laws. • Download and print off this record sheet. Use it to record your team’s answers and the correct answers. • When you are finished, check your answers. Did you get at least 8 right? You’ve earned the Law Expert Certificate. Click here to print it off and take it to your trainer (teacher) to get it signed!

  16. Nice Try… • You did not choose correctly. Think about the situation again and ask yourself these 3 questions. • 1) Is there a new law? If yes, it is making a law. • 2) Is there a punishment? If yes, it is enforcing a law. • 3) Is someone deciding if a law or rule has been broken? If yes, it is interpreting a law. • Now go back to the Situations page and take a second look at that situation. Decide on the correct answer, then move on.
