Edwardian era • Period´s end is often extended up to 1912, 1914 or 1918 • British class system was very rigid • Government passed many laws to alleviate the miserable living conditions (free school meals, better medical help etc.) • Women´s suffrage was fought for • The role of church was diminished • Rapid technological advances
Belle Èpoque A period in French and Belgian history 1871 – WWI It was a period characterized by optimism, peace at home and in Europe, new technology and scientific discoveries Flourishing of artsand many masterpieces of literature, music, theatre, and visual art gained recognition.
George V • Capable leader during World War I and after that as well • Became king in 1910 • His reign also saw the Irish republicanism and Indian independence movement • The Parliament Act in 1911
Windsor dynasty Edward VIII • Was founded when George V changed his family name from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor • Windsor dynasty persist until nowadays – Elizabeth II • There have been 4 Windsor rulers • Queen Elizabeth II is the reigning monarch of 16 Commonwealth realms. George VI Elizabeth II
