  1. Why do map makers lie? By Anna Aimetti

  2. Contents • Unknown territories • Hiding the truth • Details • Over the years • Making a statement

  3. Unknown Territories • Lack of knowledge will result in wrong maps. • An example is a story of Australia. A long time ago people didn’t know that new Zealand or Australia was there but when Magillion decided to sail around the world he found out two things, that the world is round and not flat and that Australia and new Zealand where there.

  4. Hiding the truth • Map makers may hide details to protect secrets. • For example, in Ireland during the war they had military bases and they wouldn’t show that they were there because then the enemies will find the military bases and destroy them. Same with Pirates they would burry their treasure and not put it on the map so nobody else knows.

  5. Details • Details cannot be assembled to all maps. • For example,a map of a country cannot include street names because there is no room to show them all. You can only write the name of the cities.

  6. Over the years • Over the years the world has changed and so have the maps. If you go to a new country and the map that you bought was five years old you get lost right away maybe because they built a new building or made a park.

  7. Making a statement • Sometimes people make maps to communicate a statement . • This guy from the UK made a map not a usual map and it was about Russia taking over Europe and it was a big octopus (which was Russia) and lots of other crazy drawings but he was trying to communicate that Russia is big and mean and to stop killing us.
