FOLLOWER SENSORS AND ACTUATORS EE 552 INTSTRUCTOR :Dr MOHAN KRISNAN BY MOHAMMED KASHIF IQBAL ANESH BODDAPATTI UNIVERSITY OF DETROIT MERCY
Follower • A Small mechatronic system • Detects the object • Measures the distance from object • Generally moves forward • If obstacle is detected then moves backward
SENSOR A device that responds to a stimulus like heat, light, pressure etc and generates a signal is called as sensor A sensor converts physical parameters to electrical parameters
IR proximity sensor • Works by sending out a beam of infrared light • computes the distance depending on the reflected light • Voltage varies depending on reflected light
IR proximity sensor • Triangulation method
SENSOR SPECIFICATIONS IR Proximity Sensor ( GP2D12) product from SHARP Distance output type : Analog Detecting distance : 10 to 80 Cm Operating Supply Voltage : 4.5 V to 5.5 V Output Voltage Range : 1.75 V to 2.25 V
ACTUATOR A device which activates Performs mechanical motion with the values of signal given by sensor
Stepper motor An electromagnetic actuator it is digital actuator Moves in fixed angular steps
DATA ACQUISITION • System which acquires data by digitizing analog channels and storing the data in digital form. • capable of automatically collecting data from sensors • can be used alone or with a computer • acquire multiple channels of data.
USB 6009 product of NI • used as a interface between computer and hardware • small, portable multifunction data acquisition device • 12 Bit digital I/O lines • 2 true DAC analog outputs for accurate output signal • here we used to measure sensor signal and generate pulses to control DC stepper motor
Computer • used to run software of NI Lab-view 7.0 • to save data • It is connected to USB 6008 DAQ Card
Software (LAB-View 7.0)product of NI • Lab view is a platform for a visual programming • Has many libraries and tools. • The graphical language is named "G". • Used to design, control and test
Flow diagram SENSE RESPOND INTERPRET
Future development • Able to move in all directions • Able to detect obstacles in long ranges • Can be installed in automobiles • Can be used to control speed of vehicle
drawbacks • Presently moves only forward and backward • Sensor can detect only in a small range
