Stress!. What is stress?. Stress is a normal physical response to events that make you feel threatened or upset your balance in some way. Stress Response. the body's defenses kick into high gear in a rapid, automatic process known as the “fight-or-flight” reaction.

  2. What is stress? • Stress is a normal physical response to events that make you feel threatened or upset your balance in some way.

  3. Stress Response • the body's defenses kick into high gear in a rapid, automatic process known as the “fight-or-flight” reaction

  4. What role does sociology play? • Can help understand… • Why people get stressed out • The common tendencies of stressful situations • The ways to avoid stress • Response of individuals/groups to stress • Social factors that contribute to stress

  5. Possible Theories? • To learn how teenagers recognize when their stress levels are out of control • To learn what triggers teenagers to feel ‘stressed out’ • To learn which stress response (flight or fight) is more common among teenagers • To learn what social factors contribute to stress

  6. Survey • Make sure your survey questions match your research objectives. (why you intend to conduct your survey research before you are able to properly write survey questions) • Understand your research participants. • Use natural and familiar language.

  7. Open-Ended • Allows participants to respond in any way they choose

  8. Close-ended • Particpants choose from a limited number of responses predetermined by the researcher
