  1. Essential Tips to Know Where to Stay in Abruzzo It is easy to overlook worthwhile destinations like Abruzzo when right next door is the region where major Italian tourist hubs are (e.g. the capital and everything that it has to offer). Just the same, it doesn’t take a lot to convince travelers that this mountainous region is well worth their time, especially when looking for adventurous pursuits out of the typical tourist route. The Abruzzo region can be found in the south-central region of Italy. It lies on the country’s eastern coast, right beneath Le Marche. To the west and only 50 miles away from its borders is Rome, which makes Abruzzo all the more a convenient place to explore. About a third of the Abruzzo region is designated as national parks, thanks to its incredibly mountainous geography. As a matter of fact, Abruzzo is home to some of the most beautifully preserved renaissance and medieval hill towns in Italy. It also has no shortage of picturesque hill towns and superb nature that remain mostly untouched and unseen by outsiders and it remains to be one of the richest regions in terms of nature and adventurous opportunities. Unlike major tourist towns and huge city centers, Abruzzo isn’t teeming with big name hotel chains. You will, however, most likely find family-run hotels, bed and breakfast accommodations and vacation rentals. Popular for adventurous outdoor pursuits, Abruzzo also offers plenty of camping opportunities, especially for those who want to experience nature up close. Visit and enjoy the unique ambiance of the region’s coastal towns. Abruzzo is a popular vacation destination for many Italians, which is why summer accommodation on the beach areas is typically more expensive and a lot more difficult to secure as you are also competing with local tourists for good accommodation. If budget accommodation is what you are looking for, more affordable and budget-friendly options exist in rural areas, where you will find a wide variety of small hotel chains, farm stays, rental villas, bed, and breakfasts. Hostels are also an option for the most budget conscious traveler along with dorm-style accommodations, which are perfect for backpackers and transient travelers.
