Rome • Rome-began as a monarchy, became a republic, and finally an empire • Christianity began and spread through the Roman Empire • The Eastern Roman Empire fell in AD 400’s • Western Roman Empire fell in 1453 to the Ottoman Turks (modern turkey)
Roman Empire • The Roman Empire controlled most of Europe during its height
Medieval Europe-500’s AD- 1350 AD • Roman Catholic Church became a political power • Crusades (holy wars) were sponsored by the church to take Jerusalem and Palestine from the Muslims
Medieval Europe-500’s AD- 1350 AD • Society was dominated by Feudalism. • In this society kings gave land to nobles and lords who in turn provided knights to the kings for military service
Renaissance -1350-1700 • Humanism arose during this time. People began to focus more on the world and humans than religion • Writers-Geoffrey Chaucer, William Shakespeare

Modern Era • Industrial Revolution-began in Great Britain in 1700’s and spread. People began using machines to produce goods. • WWI-war spread across Europe involving almost all countries and killing millions • WWII-War between the Allied and Axis Powers which was started by Germany under the rule of Hitler (holocaust, Atomic Bomb, Kamikazes, • Cold War-Global competition between the United States and Soviet Union to dominate the world’s governments and economies.
