  2. The human resource people seem to be very, very busy, but nobody really knows what they do! There are lots of questions being asked from people as to what does the human resource services really do and what they really are paid for as the outcome of their work is not visible. People also argue that they do not yield anything tangible, but they never seem to have any time when you want to go and meet them. They always seem to schedule you for some other day or you are been asked to send them an email! So what do human resource do? Is it that difficult to hire someone?

  3. Human resources is an unclear term that does not grab well the extent of the obligations in the department. Although the human resources team deals with lot of matters with regards to the employees of a company, such as hiring and benefits management. Human resources also work with management to assist in the development of long-term plan of action for the growth and development of a company. Human resource departments many a time act as a middleman between the employees and the management and they are the ones that the employees go to for basic company information.

  4. Human resource is undersized in a lot of companies. The most favorable ratio is 1 human resource person to every 100 employees, but many a times because of extensive local administration that is not enough. What the human resource people do cannot really be seen as they have many things to be done that they do not have enough time to present reports of their work to the people. Many a time, there is one expert dealing with more than one area which makes it really hard, challenging, and essential for the human resource people to be every read to dedicate themselves in something new.

  5. The human resource department caters vast human resource management services for the company. A few of its chief functions include hiring and selection processes; classification and pay systems; management and policy development; development programs; employee training, equal employment opportunity, affirmative action programming and humanistic services such as Employee Assistance Programs. The human resource department is also involved in leadership, communication, policy recommendations, and organisation development.

  6. The human resource department plan or charts out the macro human resources management strategy and recruitment policies of an organization. They also draw up compensation packages, incentives policies, benefits programs, health care insurance, and all employee-related rewards and emolument packages. They also coordinate and conduct training programs for employees.

  7. The human resource department deals with the different aspects of the staff. Their task include kicking in to the growth of the company and the accomplishment of the company wide business plan and objectives, company success through understanding about and spurring on people, exercising successful change strategies, and staffing of employees.

  8. Hiring of Employees:The human resource department is the first point of contact that prospective employee has with a company. The main duty of human resource department depends on the magnitude of the company and department. Human resource commonly place advertisements for new employees. They also attend job fairs and handle other recruiting duties, depending on the recruiting need of the company. The human resource team will filter resumes, check references and carry out any critical background checks, and many a times conduct first interviews with aspirants, and arranging follow-up interviews with other company departments and managers. Human resource department performs orientations of new employee, familiarize them policies, procedures, benefits, and other needed information.

Payroll for Employees:The human resource department is responsible for entering employee data into the payroll system like new joiners, leavers, contract changes, timesheets, sick leaves, vacation hours, bonuses, night shifts, overtime, salaries, week-end shifts, additional employee benefits; etc. Once the payroll is done, they made ready the payments for salaries and additional documents for local authorities.

Training for Employees:The human resource department analyse effectiveness that need to be honed in employees for each position, address training requirements with the managers, prepare internal trainings and training plan for internal and external trainings, present the internal trainings to the selected employees, communicate with external companies and at times arrange training offers, organize external trainings and making sure that the external trainers have the necessary logistics to do a good job, also gather training feedback from the participants and prepare training reports.

Administration for Employees:The human resource department prepare large volume of employee-related paperwork such as employee contracts, contract changes, certificates, prepare access cards, order laptops and cellphones, creating official email ids, administer lockers and protection equipment, administer employee assets, administer transportation, administer taxi or transportation vouchers, and prepare reports of human resource indicators such as sick leave, attrition, leavers, and joiners, etc.

Communication to Employees: The human resource department administer the internal communications towards the employees, administer the internal suggestion system, administer internal display boards, administer external communications for external partners and media, draft newsletters with vital information for the employees, they also every now and then are involved in Corporate Social Responsibility campaigns, administer employee satisfaction surveys and actions.

Human Resource Outsourcing:Human Resource outsourcing is a very important tactical step to improve the talent and flexibility of the workforce, while at the same time improving the company’s proficiency to acclimatise change and be ahead of the market forces. In this day and age, most of the companies outsource their human resource functions. The advantages affect the company owners and administrators, HR directors and employees. Advantages also include saving cost, proficient workforce, and up-to-date technology. Human resource outsourcing definitely has both short-term as well as long term advantages.
