  5. Rain Forest Facts • Rainforest once covered 14% of earth • 1 1/2 of rainforest lost everyday • We are losing 137 of plant and animal species • Most rainforest are cleared by chainsaws,bulldozers,and fires

  6. Cause of Deforestation • Loggers need trees for timber trade • Miners and oil explorations cause trees to be cut down • The building of roads in heavily wooded area • Agriculture

  7. Deforestation Hazards • An increase of flooding • Can result in more carbon dioxide in the air • Loose gravel can result in mud slides • Diminished gene pools in endangered species

  8. The War Against Deforestation • Tauato Operation prevents deforestation • Brazilian national army fines illegal deforestation • Federal police created a plan to prevent illegal deforestation

  9. How can we stop Deforestation ? • Online activists= chat rooms to help cause against deforestation • Slow down logging industry, change law of first to clear gets land • Chat rooms talk about what they can do together to slow down the logging industry by protesting the main areas • More than 1000 protesters agree to it.
