  1. Perforated Metal Balconies Turning Heads in the Netherlands With cost-effectiveness, strength and longevity, it’s no wonder perforated metal is being used from here to the Netherlands. And one thing that’s got heads turning in the Dutch city of Nijmegen is the irregularly shaped, perforated metal balconies on a recently completed apartment block. Aside from the functional benefits of perforated metal, it is renowned for being able to be transformed into a visual spectacular. An apartment building entitled ‘Housing Hatert’ designed by 24H Architecture exhibits this perfectly, with appealing perforated metal balconies folding like ribbons around the 13-storey building’s façade. The architects designed the sturdy tower with free formed balconies around, which make a recognisable sculpture from all directions; the new 'crown' of Hatert. The parking for the apartments is organised underneath a raised deck that will function as a new public space for the citizens of Hatert. Underneath the housing program (the building contains 72 apartments in its upper storeys), the ground floor will be used as a health centre and a community hall.
