  2. Length • Distance between one end of an object and the other end • Units: meter, centimeter, millimeter • Equipment: meter stick or ruler

  3. Volume • The amount of space an object takes up • Units: liter or milliliter for liquids; cm3 for rectangular solids • Equation for rectangular solids: length x width x height • Equipment: graduated cylinder, overflow can, ruler

  4. Surface area • Sum of the area of all the sides of an object • Equation: 2(Length)(Height) + 2(Width)(Height) + 2(Length)(Width) • Units: cm2 • Equipment: ruler

  5. Mass • The measure of the amount of matter in an object • Units: kilograms, grams, milligrams • Equipment: electronic balance

  6. Weight • The measure of the force of gravity on an object • Units: Newtons • Equipment: spring scale

  7. Density • A measure of how tightly packed the particles are in an object • Equation: mass/volume • Units: kg/L or g/mL or g/cm3 • Equipment: balance & graduated cylinder or ruler

  8. Temperature • The average measurement of the speed of the molecules in an object • Units: ⁰ Celcius • Equipment: thermometer
