603 A DIGITAL PROGRAMMABLE ROBOT • OVERVIEW: • BASED ON CONCEPT OF PLC. • IS PROGRAMMABLE USING A KEYPAD. • POWERED BY A 9 VOLT BATTERY. • INSTRUCTIONS CAN BE PROGRAMMED INTO MEMORY IN A SEQUENCTIAL FASHION. • OPERATING FREQUENCY(SPEED) CAN BE VARIED USING A CLOCK CIRCUIT. • HAS HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE RESET FACILITY.
BASIC COMPONENTS • THE PROGRAMMABLE ROBOT CONSISTS OF FOLLOWING BASIC ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS: • VOLTAGE REGULATOR • TO PROVIDE +5 V DC POWER SUPPLY • USES A ZENER DIODE FOR VOLTAGE REFERECE • CLOCK GENERATION CIRCUIT • USES ASTABLE MULTIVIBRATOR • POTENTIOMETER IS USED TO CONTROL THE CLOCK RATE • OPERATING FREQUENCY OF 603 A ROBOT IS 0.45/RC • MEMORY LOAD SEQUENCER • CONSISTS OF FLIP-FLOPS AND FEW GATES • LOADS INPUTS FROM KEY PAD INTO MEMORY SEQUENCTIALLY • RESET CONTROLLER AND CIRCUIT • HAS TWO RESET CIRCUITS– MANUAL AND PROGRAMMABLE • MEMORY CIRCUIT • HEART OF THE PROGRAMMABLE ROBOT • THE SIZE IS 256 WORD BY 4-BIT SRAM
ADDRESS COUNTER • USES A CMOS BINARY COUNTER IC • CONTAINS 12 COUNTING STAGES OUTPUTTING FROM 0 TO 111111111111. • ONLY 8 STAGES OF THE COUNTER ARE USED. • AUDIO OSCILLATOR • DESIGNED TO OPERATE AT A HIGHER FREQUENCY THAN THE CLOCK • MOTOR DRIVE CIRCUIT • HAS TWO IDENCITAL MOTOR DRIVE CIRCUITS- LEFT AND RIGHT • CONSISTS OF ELCTRONIC SWITCHES • LED INDICATOR CIRCUIT • USED AS A WARNING TO INDICATE THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PROGRAM INSTRUCTIONS. • MEMORY CAN ALSO BE PROGRAMMED TO LIGHT THE LED • KEY PAD • USED TO PROGRAM INSTRUCTIONS INTO THE ROBOT’S MEMORY • CONSISTS OF 5 SWITCHES AND TWO JUMPERS.
MECHANICS OF 603 A ROBOT • PERFORMS TWO BASIC TASKS • TRANSFER POWER FROM THE MOTORS TO THE WHEELS • PROVIDE THE STEERING FUNCTION • TASKS ARE ACCOMPOLISHED BY A SERIES OF GEARS CALLED THE DRIVE TRAINS. • MOTORS RUN WELL ONLY WHEN GEARS ARE TURINING AT A CERTAIN SPEED. • A PROPER COMBINATION OF THE RIGHT KINDS OF GEARS IS A MUST TO CONTROL THE SPEED AND PRODUCE THE REQUIRED TORQUE. • STEERING IS ACCOMPOLISHED BY OPERATING ONLY ONE MOTOR AT A TIME.
