What is GRF? • The Global Reaction Force (GRF) is the ability to provide NO NOTICE combat power and conduct forced-entry missions with the 82d Airborne Division • Capable of going anywhere in the world • SECDEF’s first responders • Paratroopers jump in – establish the ACP/secure the LZ • Multiple C-17s land for sustained support (ASOC is on C-17 #3) • Timeline may change based on the mission and response needed

KEY GRF Personnel • GRF Personnel • 6 Ops / 4 Support will hold GRF status for a 2 – month cycle • 2 personnel (FDO/FDT) will be on 2 hour alert from the 1-15th of each month (NO TDY/NO LEAVE) • 2 different personnel (FDO/FDT) will be on 2 hour alert from the 16-31st of each month (NO TDY/NO LEAVE) • All other primary GRF members are on 12 hour alert during their GRF cycle (TDY/LEAVE per GRF lead Approval) • 3 Ops / 4 Support will be held on RESERVE for a 2 – month cycle • All members on reserve are held to the same readiness standards • 24 hour Alert Status (Minimal TDY/LEAVE) • Sq members with mobility additional duties are also susceptible to recall based on need and GRF mission • M4/M9 Armorer / Key Custodians / COMSEC / VM / UDM
How Do We Get Ready? • Personal Equipment • Pack for 1 month of sustainment • Pack your bags smartly – cold weather items / extra boots • Have a 72 hour bag – pack everything else (use the Sq packing list) • Personal Readiness • Prepare Will / Power of Attorneys, etc • Medications / Medical appointment • Set up how your bills will get paid (don’t expect internet if deployed) • Brief your significant others on the possibilities of GRF / watch the news • Plan your leave and TDYs around GRF cycles – names for the next cycle will be identified 60 days prior to new cycle
How Do We Get Ready? • Squadron Equipment • Gateway System • Gateway Trailer Generator • DCP w/ radio & antennas • 3 x PRC-148 w/ antennas and Charger • 2 x Box of MREs • Admin Box w/ paper, pencils, markers, whiteboard, etc • Support Tool boxes • Extra parts kits for generator / vehicles • Iridium Phone • Still looking for a location to store all the equipment
Sitting Alert • 2 Hour Alert • NO DRINKING • Must be at the 82nd Airborne Division Bldg 2 hours after the Notification process starts (N+2). NO EXCUSES • Keep phones charged, in hand and answer the phone! • 12-24 Hour Alert • ANSWER YOUR PHONE • Stay ready – you could be on a plane within 18 hours of notification • LEAVE is possible on case by case basis • If you are recalled on leave the member incurs the expense back • Alternate GRF members will be formally briefed when moved to primary GRF status
Sample GRF Timeline • N-Hr AAOC initiates notification • N+2 Division ALO & ASOC OIC arrives at AAOC • N+4 Division battlestaff assembled to begin orders process • N+4 GRF members assembled at 682 ASOS (TDY/Non-Local Members traveling to local area) • N+7 AAOC fully operational; LNOs present • N+8 GRF key & essential personnel assembled (Army) • N+10 N+10 Brief (DIV WARNO) • N+12 Outload Synch Meeting and OST fully operational • N+24 GRF1 assembled with attached unit • N+24 TDY/Non-Local GRF Members assembled at 682 ASOS • N+26 Establish Alpha Echelon. Equipment/Vehicle movement to HDRS • N+32 Division OPORD • N+48 Remainder of GRF (GRF2/3/BCT) assembled with attached unit – Most likely us • N+50 GRF backbrief to TRA HQ • N+54 GRF OPORD published • N+72 Initiation of Airborne Timeline • N+96 GRF Prepared to Deploy (initial elements wheels up) – Most likely us
Training Requirements • All GRF members will be deployment ready • Must be current in: • PHA/Dental • PT Test • TACTICS • M4 and/or M9 • Gas Mask Fit Test • ADLS • SABC • CBRNE • GRF membershave priority for training • Some training may be excused as long as it is scheduled – Check with DOR for most up to date training requirements and schedules
