  2. Lack of confidence • Causes • His father has been absent since his childhood • Grown up without anyone to learn from • no role model • He is not able to fight for his rights from the suitors • Suitors don't respect him

  3. Lack of Confidence • Effects • Not able to fight for his family • the suitors taking over the house • feels that it is a lost cause since he believes his father is dead • "For 3 years now these men have been staying in my house and eating away at my father's wealth. Even when I tried to stand up to them, they just laughed in my face. If only my father was here to chase them away."

  4. Determination • Causes • Told that Odysseus is alive • Visited by athena • Told by Athena, Menelaus, and Nestor that he is a lot like Odysseus • Whole attitude changes • Increase in confidence

  5. Determination • Effects • Followed Athena's advice: • Called the town meeting • stood up to the suitors • Went to visit nestor and Menelaos

  6. Determination • "An amazing thing happened to me today; I was visited by Athena! Moreover, she told me that my father is alive! I feel a new strength inside of me. I am ready to do whatever it takes to find my father." • "Today I was visiting with Menelaus when he told me that I remind him of my dear father. I remember that Nestor and Athena had said similar things to me. I hope what they say is true and that I will truly make my father proud."

  7. Emotions • Causes • The discovery that his father is alive has shaken Telemachus' world • really angry at the suitors (town meeting) • this is the first time he has had hope to see his father again

Emotions • Effects • Able to handle suitors • Increase in confidence • Increase in hope • Determined to see his father again • Takes action towards finding his father • "I am just so angry at the suitors. It is my house and my mom. They shouldn't be bugging us." • "I feel I can actually find my father and regain my home."
