4/14/14 • “Russia PEET 2nd drafts” • Read over your 2nd drafts with my comments on them & write down the following: • Which aspects of PEET do you think you need to improve upon for your final draft? • How will you improve them?
Circles = grammar/spelling/spacing, etc. • #’s on Explanations on rubric = evidence # • Great job with PEET format, Points, Evidence, & Tie-backs! • Final draft can increase 2nd draft score by 50%.
Explanations! • Give piece of Evidence, then… • Explain what evidence means. (This means that…) • Connect evidence to thesis. (This proves my point because…)
Explanations: Russia = socialist • Evidence: Lenin distributed farmland to all Russian peasants (MWH 456). • Explanation, part one (explain what evidence means): • Before the revolution, most Russians were peasants who did not own their own land. After Lenin & the Bolsheviks took over, they took land away from the rich landowners and redistributed it to the poor, landless Russians.
Explanations: Russia = socialist • Evidence: Lenin distributed farmland to all Russian peasants (MWH 456). • Explanation, part two • (explain how evidence proves your point): • This is an example of socialism because… • Socialism is when the government is in control and they distribute resources to the population equally. In this case, Lenin was in control, and he gave each Russian an equal amount of farmland. This is what true socialism looks like!

Explanations: Russia = no political change • Evidence: Stalin created a totalitarian state in Russia (MWH 456). • Explanation, part one (explain what evidence means): • Totalitarianism is when the government has complete and total control over all aspects of life: socially, politically, and economically.
Explanations: Russia = no political change • Evidence: Stalin created a totalitarian state in Russia (MWH 456). • Explanation, part two • (explain how evidence proves your point): • This is an example of how Russian revolutionaries did not create true political change because… • Before the revolution, the czars were in power and their autocratic government basically had total control over the Russian people. After the revolution, Stalin’s totalitarian state had the same, if not even more, control than the czars did!

Tie-Backs/Conclusions • Summarize your whole argument (not only your last piece of evidence). • “So what?” This is significant because… • This is important to know because…
