  4. Setting and Literary Elements • Set in London, England during 1880 • Tone is in a serous manner, while there are a lot of themes the one that fits most is good vs. evil. • The main conflict is the struggle between Jekyll and Hyde over the doctors mind and body. • It is told in third person. • Symbolism- the laboratory is a major symbol

  5. Major characters • Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are the same person who are nothing alike. • Gabriel John Utterson is very unexciting and also does not have strong feelings about anything. • Dr Lanyon who is a mutual friend of Utterson and Jekyll.

  6. Plot Summary • Story starts with Mr. Hyde knocking over a little girl. He then disappears into a random door and pays the girls dad for her harm. • Utterson has dreams with a guy with no face and he talks to Lanyon and Jekyll about these weird dreams. • With Hyde and Jekyll being the same person they soon become one and he might end up killing himself or go to jail and Mr. Hyde.

  7. Andrew’s Quote • “Did you ever remark that door? He asked, and when his companion had replied in the affirmative, it is connected in my mind added he, with a very odd story” • this quote takes place when they are they are going to the building where they pass by a place where this weird door is.

  8. Megan’s Quote • “If you choose to make capital out of this accident, said he. I am naturally helpless. No gentleman but wishes to avoid a scene says he. Name your figure” • This is when Mr. Utterson is talking to the dad of the little girl who got trampled by Mr. Hyde and trying to get him to accept money for his daughters medical bill.

  9. Analysis of book • Megan- I thought the book was good, however you had to be really motivated to read it. I would recommend this to anyone who has the patience to read it. It’s a short book but filled with lots of information. • Andrew- this book was very good, I loved how Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde were the same person and it was kind of like multiple personality and it I was interested in this novel because of this.
