  1. Who Am I?

  2. Your Amazing Accomplishments • So what?? • These accomplishments and experiences make you better qualified to do a job, and employers recognize them.

  3. ACTIVITY: • Write a paragraph (about five sentences) answering the following: Compare these accomplishments & credentials to the chart you made already about what you like to do, what you like to do well, and things that are important to you. Do you see any patterns emerging (do certain things appear several times, or is there no crossover?)? Make note of the areas where you have many accomplishments, and areas where you are lacking. Write a list of accomplishments and credentials that you already have, such as: • A Bronze Cross in swimming • Camping experience • Knowledge of another language • Volunteer activities • Computer skills • Good grades in a subject or on a particular project • Experience in extra-curricular activities at school • Physical fitness

  4. What are you Proud of? ACTIVITY: Write half a page to a full page telling a story about something that you are proud of. It can be a personal attribute, how you acted in a challenging situation, an accomplishment – anything that you are proud of yourself for. • It is incredibly important to examine your strengths so that you are able to build upon them, as well as being able to recognize your weaknesses so that you can work on improving yourself.

  5. What Are My Interests? One of my first jobs after graduating from high school was working as a stage manager at an outdoor theatre. I loved theatre, being organized, helping people and being outside. Not to mention getting to wear awesome clothes  • What do you like to do? Do you have one main interest? Or do you have many different interests? • People who do work that they enjoy tend to have chosen jobs that are based around their interests. • Why be bored and unhappy? Take the time to discover what you enjoy and make choices in your career that lead you towards your interests.

  6. Interest Sorter These categories group together similar interests (things you enjoy doing, or you think are cool/fun). You can use these categories to find other things that may interest you, too!

  7. ACTIVITY: With a partner.... • Brainstorm 5 occupations that would suit someone with those interests. • Answer: Do any of them appeal to you? Why? • Each person should keep a copy of the notes that you brainstormed and your answer. (Use the back of your Interests handout if you wish)

  8. How am I Smart? • Experts who study intelligence say that school ‘smarts’ can be measured by IQ, intelligent quotient. But IQ only measures how you handle verbal and math problems – and leaves out other entire areas of intelligence. • Many experts now believe that people have multiple intelligences – 8 different kinds of ‘smarts.’ • Each of us has intelligence in all 8 areas, but every individual has 3 or 4 areas that are dominant. • These intelligences have a big influence over what we like doing and how we approach learning.

  9. Multiple Intelligences(MI) • Naturalist intelligence: understanding nature, seeing patterns in the way nature works; classifying things • Interpersonal intelligence: understanding the feelings, needs and purposes of others • Logical/mathematical intelligence: reasoning, logical thinking; handling mathematical problems • Visual/spatial intelligence: creating and interpreting visual images; thinking in 3 dimensions

  10. Multiple Intelligences(MI) • Intrapersonal intelligence: understanding your own interior thoughts and feelings in a very clear way. • Body/kinaesthetic intelligence: feeling and expressing things physically; doing hands-on work • Musical/rhythmic intelligence: creating and feeling a rhythm to express a mood; detecting and analysing musical themes • Verbal/linguistic intelligence: using language to present your ideas, to express your feelings or to persuade others.

  11. ACTIVITY: Get the MI handout and complete the survey. When you’ve done the survey, neatly complete the chart and answer the last couple questions about your results.

  12. Discovery Wheel Quiz – Assign each statement a point value between 1-5 (read the instructions on the page carefully). Total the points for each section. Colour in your results on the wheel on the first page. Answer questions 1-4 on the last page. • Self Assessment: Who Am I? – Complete each scale, and answer the questions as thoroughly as possible. 3. Values Survey – Place a check mark in the column that most closely matches your feelings. Total your score, and read what each value says about you. Highlight the explanations of your top 4 values. Answer the questions on the last page. Complete the following:
