Definition of animation • The state of being full of life or vigour; liveliness • The technique of photographing successive drawings or positions of puppets or models to create an illusion of movement when the film is shown in sequence • The manipulation of electronic images by means of a computer in order to create moving images
Types of animation • Flipbook animation (pencil and paper) • Stop motion animation (using figurine or physical objects) • 2D animation (using computer software) • 3D animation (using computer software – more realistic)
Why animation? • Tell a story • Deliver a message • Show a process/ reaction
Computer animation • Make use of computer graphics and animation technique • Using the computer system to create the animation using drawing software and animation program • Can be 2D or 3D
Difference between 2D and 3D animation • 2D animation is a flat animation with only the x and y axes • 3D animation includes an extra dimension and that is the z axis • Examples of 2D animation: Tom and Jerry cartoons; The Lion King • Examples of 3D animation: Toy Story; Wall-E; Frozen; Despicable Me Don’t understand??
Storyboard • Helps to plan the narrative of the animation • Pre-production process of planning how each character moves in the animation • Helps you to think visually • Saves time during the implementation process
What should a storyboard includes? • Text • Drawing • Text and drawing
