Anterior Pituitary: Adrenocorticotrophic Hormone (ACTH) Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) Luteinising Hormone (LH) Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) Prolactin (PRL) Growth Hormone (GH) Melanocyte-Stimulating Hormone (MSH) Posterior Pituitary Anti-Diuretic Hormone (ADH) Oxytocin Pituitary Gland (Cont.)
Thyroid Gland • small gland; shaped like a butterfly • Located in the lower part of the neck • Main hormones released: • triiodothyronine (T3) • thyroxine (T4) • Hormones deliver energy to cells of the bodyEormously important for teens because the manufactured hormones help in controlling the metabolism and growth of the entire body
Adrenal Gland • Two triangular shaped glands; one on top of each kidney • Two parts: • Adrenal cortex:-> Outer part-> produces hormones called cortisteroids->influence or regulate salt and water balance in the body, the body’s response to stress, metabolism, the immune system, and sexual development and functions • eeeeeee • Adrenal medulla:-> Inner part-> produces catecholamines (i.e epinephrine a.k.a adrenaline)-> increases blood pressure and heart rate when the body experiences stress
Pancreas • The first section of the small intestine. • Makes digestive juices such as insulin • Insulin controls the amount of sugar in the blood • A compound gland because it is both exocrine and endocrine • Controls carbohydrate metabolism • Most common pancreatic disease is diabetes
