EV7 Projects – Fourier Analysis of FSK Square Wave Purpose • FM Transmitter Configuration • ESTL currently configures FM transmitters using a sinusoidal modulating signal • Many FSK transmitters have digital front ends that only support pulse modulation • Allows beta values (Δf / R) to be configured using square wave (‘1010’ or ‘1100’ pattern) modulating signal • Analysis of FSK Transmission Sequences • Preamble: Digital ‘1010’ training sequence • Results in additional power levels at center frequency and harmonics 7
Method 1: Closed-Form Solution of Fourier Integral Pulse Train RF Pulse Train ReconstructedSignal FSK Square Wave Fourier Coefficients Sum of 2 RF Pulse TrainsOffset 180° 8
Method 2: Numerical Evaluation of Fourier Integral Using Symbolic Mathematics Program FSK Square Wave x(t) Fourier Integral Normalized Fourier Series Coeffs. [dBc] 9
Method 3: Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) FSK Square Wave x(t) Sample Signal s(t) FFT 10
FSK Square Wave Spectrum Calculated via Closed-Form Solution Components occur at fc+ n*fm fm=R/2 for ‘1010’, fm= R/4 for ‘1100’ 11
