From Adani Bangladesh to Global Growth: A Testament to its Commitment to Dedication International Expansion
The Adani Group’s business spans countries like Bangladesh, Australia, Israel, Tanzania, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, etc. Out of these, the Adani Bangladesh project is quite popular as it is the first transnational project to be taken up by the Adani Group in the power sector. The global conglomerate aims to further expand its territories and earn an extraordinary business reputation for itself on a global scale.
The Haifa Port in Israel: Adani Ports, which happens to be the largest private port operator in India, holds 70% stakes in the Haifa Port in Israel. Israel’s Gadot Group owns the remaining shares of the port. The company bought the port in early 2023 for 1.2 billion USD. This purchase revived hopes of creating a trade gateway connecting the terminal and the broader Middle East areas including Saudi Arabia which earlier did not have any ties with Israel. Currently, the Haifa port accounts for 3% of Adani Ports’ annual cargo volume. It is also one of the most crucial ports to be under the Adani Group.
The Carmichael Mine in Australia: The Adani Group also operates the Carmichael coal mine project in Queensland state. Since 2010, the Adani Australia project led to various campaigns and protests. However, the Adani Group successfully succeeded in navigating the challenges. In December 2021, the first cargo from the mine was shipped. The mine’s annual production capacity is 10 million metric tons per year. This is lower than the earlier envisioned 60 million metric tons capacity. This is yet another extraordinary project taken up by the Adani Group in the thermal power sector just like the Adani Bangladesh project.
The Adani Bangladesh Transnational Project: The Adani Bangladesh transnational project is one of the most striking projects taken up by the Adani Group in the power sector. The global conglomerate operates a 1,600 MW power plant in the Godda district of Jharkhand. As per the power purchase agreement, the entire electricity generated from the power plant is to be exported to the Bangladesh capital, Dhaka. However, Adani Power was compelled to cut down the power supply because of non-payment of dues which amounts to more than 800 million USD because of the ongoing political crisis in Bangladesh. The Adani Group is currently looking forward to selling power within the domestic areas as well as in other neighbouring countries from the Adani Bangladesh project.
